将来の人類の危機

What are the problems the world will face in the future?

I am afraid the problems we have to solve are overpopulation and food shortage.

In fact, these two have similar problems.

The more people on the earth, the less food we will have.

Let me explain.

First, I would like to tell you about overpopulation.

In Japan, we are suffering from a serious decreasing of young children, but in the world, more and more children are born.

Lack of education causes this problem.

Uneducated people in developing nations do not have the idea of family planning.

Lack of medical knowledge is also causing the problem.

In fact, three or four out of five children in average around these areas will die of hunger, diseases and flood or other disasters.

Doctors, medicine, hospitals, and medical knowledge will completely change their attitudes of giving a birth to children.

Second, we do not have sufficient amount of food to deal with these people.

Though the number of people will easily be doubled, the amount of products do not increase that much.

We have to develop a lot of foods–GM food as well.

Some scientists say that we cannot predict the complete safety of GM food, but I say we cannot wait.

With the development of these food, we can cope with the looming danger; overpopulation.

I would like to conclude that education only helps us avoid devastating risk looming over us.

Overpopulation and lack of food are just two examples of the problems we face today.

Thank you very much.
