This is a pleasant memory of one of my friends. He has a daughter who passed a college entrance after one-year preparation.

His daughter called him up one year ago, upon finding her failure. “Sorry, dad, I couldn’t make it.” Her voice was full of chagrin though she worked hard to hide it. At that moment, he confessed that he had realized how much he had loved her. Hearing her, my friend grabbed his phone hard in spite of himself, saying to himself, “Now it is time that I should support you!”

最初の段落では、memory of がmemory from に。memory of …
次にwho passed college entrance after one-year’s preparation.

1行目、finding をlearning of に。find はto discover unexpectedly, learn はto become aware of something by hearing about it ですから、learn がいいでしょう。
she worked をshe had worked に。
he had loved her をhe loved herに。
Hearing her がUpon hearing from her に。grabbed をheld に。
saying to をtelling に。Hear だと「聞こえてくる」hear from だと、be contacted by someone, especially by letter or telephone ですからどんぴしゃり。
