英英辞典への招待⑨
現在、手に入るかどうかわかりませんが、興味深い英英辞典を二つ紹介しておきます。
ひとつは、松本亨先生による英英辞典で、ジャパンタイムズ社が、昔だしていました。
(こちらは現在は絶版だと思います)
ジュニア英英辞典。
日本人の英語の初心者のために、日本人によって、編纂された英英辞典。
松本先生のまえがきによれば、Japan を普通の英英辞典なら、an island empire off East Asia となります。
ところが、この辞典では、our country です。
松本先生が、初心者の人に、直接英語で説明している、とてもわかりやすい辞典です。
現在、この本が入手不可能なのは、本当に残念です。
クイズのうち、21,22,23, 25 はジュニア英英辞典の説明からとりました。
21.(U ) = the same type of clothes many people who belong to a group wear; You are wearing your school (??).
(??)のところにこの単語が入ります。
22. (V ) = a long holiday. When your school is closed, you have this.
23. (W ) = Men carry theirs in their pockets. They keep paper money in them.
24. ( X) = a solid material made of fats oils, which changes to a thick liquid when melted by heat.
X は、ざんねんながらその文字で始まる語がほとんどありませんので、Xで終わる語にしました。
25. (Y ) = a young man. older boys and girls. They in Japan are lucky. They do not have to go to war.
26. (Z ) = a place where animals are kept so you can go and see them. Father took me to the place yesterday. I enjoyed looking at big elephants and other animals.
