英英辞典への招待②
これは、なじみのある動物や、昆虫などを、英語で説明してみたものです。
答えはアルファベット順で、ヒントが、カッコの中の最初の文字。
ご覧になってお分かりの通り、やさしいものが多い。
ただ、時々わかりにくい言葉も入っていますけれど、全体として眺めていくと、何となく意味が取れる。
そんなわけで、前回の問題の答え。
1. (Ant ) = a small insect that lives in organized groups. There are many types of them.
きちんと構成された集団で生活する昆虫、というわけで、「蟻」ですね。
2. (Bee ) = a black and yellow flying insect that can sting. They live in large groups and make honey.
黒と黄色の飛ぶ昆虫。sting は「刺す」という意味です。「蜂」
3. (Cat ) = a small animal with soft fur that people often keep as a pet. They catch and kill birds and mice.
小さな動物で、柔らかい毛皮をもっています。ひとはよくペットとして飼います
すみません、スペルミスがありました。girds ではなく、birds ですね。「ねこ」です。
4. (Dog ) = an animal with four legs and a tail, often kept as a pet or trained for work, for example hunting or guarding buildings.
今度は四足で、しっぽがあり、ペットとして飼われたり、仕事やハンティング、守るために訓練されたりします。「犬」
5. (Elephant ) = a very large animal with thick grey skin, large ears, two curved outer teeth called tusks and a long nose called a trunk.
大きな耳と長い鼻。もちろん「象」です。
