Manner of apology

Recently, one of the main topics about sport has been the delay of the head coach of Nihon University’s American football team.

Mr. Uchida, the head coach finally said sorry for his team’s member’s rough play but it was almost two weeks after the play was done.

Looking at one of Nihon Univ. player tackled Kwansei Gakuin’s quarterback roughly, everybody must have felt it was a terrible play.

The quarterback had already sent his ball to another player, and he was just walking, no worrying about being attacked.

Some Kwansei Gakuin players were aware of the terrible play and pointed that to inform judges. but the judges there did not react properly.

As the head coach of Kwansei Gakuin team said, it was clearly a rough play and the Nihon Univ. couach should have scolded the player and apologized the opponents.

What Mr. Uchida did was just the opposite.

He had hidden himself for two weeks and did not apologize.

No wonder many people criticized him.

finally, two days ago, he appeared at an airport to say sorry to the victimized person.

Yet, he did not explain what really had taken place.

The point was; the rough play had been done by the player himself or, as many people told us, it had been ordered by Mr. Uchida.

Watching some TV shows, I think his manner of apology is terrible.

First, he did not tell the opponent’s name properly. (He always said “Kansai Gakuin,” though the real name was “Kwansei Gakuin.”

Second, his tie was a pink one. This is not a good tie for this kind of occasion.

Finally, he did not explain what happened. He just said, “I will quit the job of the head coach of American football team.”
