The need for alternative energy sources
I think that today’s Japanese people strongly feel the need for alternative energy sources because of the Fukushima nuclear plant problem.
First, now is the best time for use to turn to alternative energy, because the citizens of Japan fully understand the need. Education and public awareness has been achieved. Those who thought that nuclear plants were advantageous now find them risky and have turned around.
Second, the threat of global warming prevents us from depending on fossil fuel energy. We have to consider alternatives like solar, hydroelectricity and thermal power. Even though we are not ready yet, we have to work hard to push our society in this direction. We have to say ‘good by’ to oil and nuclear power.
Finally, pollution is another incentive for us to turn to sustainable energy. For instance, some people point out that wind power creating mechanisms seem to create mysterious and unhealthy noises. In fact, people living around these machines claim that their physical condition is not good, and sometimes feel depressed. I think we have to examine these matters carefully and then decide. We should not repeat the same mistake we made in the process of introducing nuclear power plants.
As aforementioned, we Japanese have realized the need for alternative energy. The next question is what energy we will introduce.
