今回は、過去問ではなく、予想問題で書いていただきました。添削をしていきます。
英検1級では、まず、自分の立場をはっきりと示し、その後、理由を3つ、それぞれ1パラグラフずつで書いていき、最後に結論として、自分の立場をもう一度まとめます。
それでは、書いていただくテーマですが、例によって2つのうち一つを選ぶもの。
ポイントは、設けませんでした。
Pack Rat or Minimalist?
タイトルの意味は、「ため込み屋さんと必要なものだけ取っておく人」というような意味です。
まず、第1段落。
Honestly, I respect minimalists very much for the following reasons, because I am one of pack rats and I do not like that.
前半の節では、very much をつけなくても、respect の前に really を置けば十分です。また、後半の節では、自分がpack rat なので、という形にして終わればいいです。
全体に少し言葉が多くてくどい感じがします。
したがって、
Honestly, I really respect minimalists for the following three reasons because I am a pack rat myself.
では、第2段落。
①First, minimalists are free from worry about space. ②Pack rats collect things and keep them, while minimalists enjoy life without unnecessary things. ③Minimalists just throw away things they used and forget about them. ④Pack rats, however, always worry about where to put things. ⑤They have to move to wider places to enjoy a limited space.
①さまざまな心配事のことなので、worries にします。
②はこれで良いと思います。
③「使い終えたものを捨ててしまう」ので、they have used にします。
④「いつでも心配している」という感じを出すため、現在進行形にします。Pack rats, however, are always worrying about where to put things.
⑤「広いところ（=larger places） に引っ越しても狭い空間（=less space）しか楽しめない」
というわけで、次のように書き変えました。
First, minimalists are free from worries about space. Pack rats collect things and keep them, while minimalists enjoy life without unnecessary things. Minimalists just throw away things they have used and forget about them. Pack rats, however, are always worrying about where to put things. Though they have to live in larger places, they enjoy less space.
