いよいよ次の日曜日に迫った英検２次試験です。
１級の２次対策のスピーチを考えてみました。
植田一三先生の著作からのテーマです。
“Which is the greater threat to humankind, terrorism or world hunger?”
「テロと世界飢餓、人類にとってより大きな脅威はどちらか？」
です。
飢餓とされる方が多いだろうと考えて、テロを解答とするほうで組み立ててみました。
I think terrorism is the greater threat to us for the following reasons.
It is true that world hunger has created far more victims. According to UN report, more than 8 million people die because of hunger. I think, however, terrorism is the greater threat because it creates hatred among people while world hunger develops friendship. Let me explain this in detail.
Let’s think about the cause of world hunger. Famine, the gap between the poor and the rich, conflict, and so on. In order to decrease the number of victims, we have to cooperate. We put together extra food, leftovers, then divide them into groups of hungry people. We need the spirit of cooperation and working together.
On the contrary, the cause of terrorism is difference of race, religion, and political matters. These differences will create misunderstanding and hatred among people. For instance, it is said that IS consists of extreme group of religious people. They will not get together with people with other ideas. They cannot see eye to eye. Hatred continues and terrorism will not stop.
That’s why I say, terrorism is the greater threat to us. Thank you very much.
テーマとしては、非常に単純で、テロは憎悪を生み、飢餓は協力を生み出す、というものです。
さらに、詳しくテロについて述べることもできますが、できるだけ限られた時間内に話すことを考えてみました。
