英検が、2020年からの旧センター試験への導入を踏まえて、多くの級で、自由英作文を課題に貸すようになってきました。
今回は、この自由英作文を、わたしたちが実際に書く書き方を参考に、どうすればよくなるか、検討してみたいと思います。
トピックは、the Japan Times 社から出ている、「英検2級 最短合格 英作文＆面接 完全制覇」を参考にさせていただきました。
Today, many young children have their own cell phones. Do you think it is a good idea forchildren to have cell phones?
がトピックです。
出題形式としては、
このトピックについて、自分の意見と理由を二つ書きなさい。
Points は参考となる観点を示したもの。これら以外から理由を述べてもよい。
今回は Safety, Education, Addiction の３つです。
語数の目安は80‐100語。
まずは、生徒さんに書いていただいたものを見ていただきましょう。
①I do not think so.
②This is because it is not safe for children without a sense if crisis to use the Internet.
③In addition, I think that there is a possibility that children lost time for study if they use it too much.
④So I think that it is necessary for children to be restricted the use of cell phone by their parents until they graduate junior high school that is on the way of compulsory education. (78words)
①立場をはっきり示している点ではよいと思います。ただ、これだけでは、何の話かよくわからないので、もう少し詳しく、意見をまとめてみるとよいでしょう。
②まず、英文から。without a sense if crisis to use the Internet は、たぶん、「緊急事態の時に、安全ではない」という意味だと思うのですが、少しわかりにくいです。それから、ここまでだと意見になるので、その後の理由が、はっきりしない。
③おそらく、ポイントとしては、教育だろうと思いますが、Education という言葉をしっかり使ったほうが分かりやすいでしょう。
④これは結論なのですが、突如、義務教育の途中の中学を卒業する、という内容がでてくるので、全体の関連性が分かりにくくなっているように思います。

②I have two reasons to support this idea；education and addiction.
③First, about education.
④Many children concentrate on playing games and use cell phones for a long time.
⑤They do not have much time to study.
⑥Second, about addiction.
⑦We often see cell phone use is addictive.
⑧Children cannot stop using cell phones even though they know it’s time to study or to exercise.
⑨In fact, some children see doctors to cure this habit.
⑩For these reasons, I don’t think children have to use cell phones.
①②とりあえず、立場と、何がテーマかをはっきりさせるようにしたつもりです。
③これは、本当はlet me tell you about …などと書きたいところ。
④⑤は、長時間携帯を使うので、勉強ができない。
⑥これも③に同じ。
⑦⑧⑨は、携帯使用をやめることができない、という例。
⑩最後のまとめ、です。何の話なのかももう一度触れておきました。
