Japan Should Welcome Immigration
Considering today’s condition in Japan, I think we should open our door and accept more foreigners, for the following three reasons.
First, I’d like to discuss labor shortage. As a result of declining birthrate, we will soon face lack of workers in many fields, such as medical field. Recently, the government and hospitals have worked together and welcomed foreigners as assistant nurses. The problem is, however, they have to take exams in Japanese. I think Japan should check only their medical knowledge and skills.
Second, let’s consider cultural diversity. The Japanese are well-known for their poor communication ability. Even students majoring in English show strong reluctance in speaking the language. Why? It is because they lack experiences of communicating with people from other countries. This is something we have to go over if we have a lot of foreigners in Japan. Immigration develops our internationalization.
Finally, let’s think about our declining birthrate. Japanese women work hard and marry later. The number of children they have in their lifetime is less than two. It takes us a long time to turn around this trend. If we have more foreigners in Japan, we can have many young people and our country will be powerful.
As mentioned above, I believe our government should welcome more and more immigrants.
